Money can’t buy Success

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I went into a public house for to quaff a pint of beer.
A chap was talking on TV, but his words were not so clear.
I think he might have mentioned money,
The rest I could not catch …

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I popped into a barber’s shop just to get a decent shave.
Same bloke spoke on the radio and this time I heard him say:
“We’re Champs, but it ain’t down to money –
Money can’t buy success.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 At times it proves a useful tool, it can buy a lot of stuff –
A big guitar-shaped swimming pool, p’rhaps a man or woman’s love.
But there’s one thing that it can’t purchase –
Money can’t buy success.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Our Chairman is an oil tycoon named Roman Abramovich.
He ain’t short of a bob or two, to be blunt he’s stinking rich.
But he ain’t none too keen on money –
Money can’t buy success.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Our Manager’s from Portugal and he’s got the Midas touch.
Although he earns a tidy sum (bet you’d never guess how much),
He ain’t sure how to spend the money –
Money can’t buy success.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Some claim we’ve won this Premiership thanks to dodgy Russian dosh.
Without which we’d ‘ve come in last – that’s a load of utter tosh!
It’s nowt to do with Roman’s roubles –
Money can’t buy success.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 We came top ‘cos we sweated blood and enjoyed our share of luck.
Esprit de corps, and sheer hard graft, no, they can’t be bought with bucks.
Mourinho’s men make mock of money –
Money can’t buy success.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So don’t come begging us for cash if you meet us in the street.
Don’t ask if we can spare some coins for a nice, hot cuppa tea.
‘Cos we’ve quite lost our faith in money –
Money can’t buy success…”

Notes

To mark Chelsea winning the Premiership here is a re-working of the Fab Four’s Can’t buy me Love, inspired by the words of Chelsea Chief Executive, Peter Kenyon, who back in February asserted “You can’t buy success”…
