More to Life

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 One last chance goes begging
The crowd’s oohs all subside
We’ve blown it for another year
My team is on the slide.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 So do I have to follow them
Down into the abyss?
I can’t help thinking there must be
More to my life than this.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Just because they’ve got the ball
Do I have to wear a chain?
It’s not umbilical after all
A cord cut without pain.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So summon summer Saturdays
Which always seemed so drear.
I’ll cut some daisies, pull some weeds –
Maybe drink some beer.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 New destinations beckon
Which up to now I’ve missed
I can swan off where the hell I like
Without the fixture list.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Like Toad I’ll hit the open road
A world webbed in my foot.
Horizons hover h’inviting
Beyond my terrace rut.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But when I reach the promised land
As ever there’s a catch.
No action – no adrenalin
Where can I see a match?

Notes

One for the end of the season. We all convince ourselves we’ve really got a rich and varied life, don’t we…?
