My Bloody Bilston Début

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I can remember the old sash windows
Open in the warm summertime,
The blood that was on the plastic sheet
Wasn’t his, wasn’t yours but mine.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I can remember the slippers he wore
He playfully cursed as he walked through the door.
Called from watching golf on the telly,
And ready to feed his belly,

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The hospital phoned to do a stitch-up job
Part of his duties to do this job,
In a semi-conscious state
Me, in a bed I did wait.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 It happened in Stratford one summer
For Bilston in a pre-season match,
Near two score years have gone since then
Leaving a scar near my ageing bald patch

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 This conquer tree of a centre-half
Was surprised how high I could climb,
The blood that I said on the plastic sheet
Wasn’t his, wasn’t yours but mine.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Soon I was back regarded as fit
Good news you expect I suppose,
In my comeback I jumped for my hat-trick
And the goalkeeper broke my nose.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 He ‘deliberately done me’ has they say
A hospital visit again that day,
Who keeps the score and chases the glory?
The bloke with the scars who’s telling the story.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Now I’m not the type to say my time was better
That’s not fair to the young in my book,
Encourage and teach don’t bore them and preach
What they need is a good stroke of luck.
