(wannabe Paddy)
fell for it, let the heart rule the head
choosing a bet by gee-gee’s name over form
though in fairness
it being a Maiden
there was barely any form of note –
very much like the current pre-season friendlies
where the results are so misleading;
Premiership teams lose to non-League outfits
but is it the first team – or Reserves – or even the ‘A’ team
who took to the field?

Michael Owen scores four for Utd
as I make up my team – should he be invited?
and JT sticks by the Blues –
should he shore up my spine? I’m just lovin’ this news!
or the Chelsea fringe – should they impinge?
they’ll get limited game time
and the occasional lame rhyme
but sporadic points might accrue
so I ponder painfully what to do?
how about Sturridge?
looks a good finisher – but have I the courage?
or Di Santo or Stoch
could either be, one to watch?
but no sign of Scott Sinclair – most unfair

but my nag lost by a neck
I can’t wait for the new season
but to base hopes on made-up tournaments – I’m just a jibbering wreck!

made-up tournaments : an obvious nod to the plethora of diddy pre-season tournaments played all over

but also a reverential nod to the Fantasy Football so beloved by myself and many others
