nine haiku – or, as we say in Norfolk, hackoos

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 veteran ‘keeper
career played hell for leather
replaced by kid gloves

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 transfer fees and frees
football agents travel shop
comings and goings

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 august through to may
yoyos and musical chairs
let the music play

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 one whistle, two cars
the referee steels himself
three o’clock, ‘four-eyes’

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 born in the city
pilgramage to Carrow Road
yellow and green blood

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 itv highlights
underwhelming scheduling
above us, only Sky

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 ugly defending
this is the beautiful game
played by centrehalves

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 top of may table
when august comes, we are all
alphabetical

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 striker joins city
guaranteed that, like lightning,
he never strikes twice

Notes

this has reminded me why i haven’t attempted haiku for a while – it’s so addictive, frustrating, satisfying, brilliantly enjoyable.
