Not for neophobiacs – or is it?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 You have to enjoy change, to follow football –
To embrace changing fortunes
Plunging / rising league positions
Ever-varying refereeing decisions
Diverse interpretations, of a set law
An ever-evolving, offside flaw;
Playing in different formations
Lining out in an emergency role
One week partnering a Portugueezer
The next, a perky Pole;
To accept substitutions, or the Rafa rotation
To follow the media verbiage, and yet more journo notation
To witness varying degrees of honesty –
Where diving and simulation
Vie with sincerity and hero-worship
That can never stymie stimulation;
And just think of all that change
That one can initate with big bucks
Likewise, the Football Poets New poems page –
In a constant state of flux
Where no matter how good the ‘song’
No-one stays on top – for long!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Soccer sups from the chalice of adjustment
To deliver ever-changing chants
To count up every missed chance
To wonder at the next quirky dance
Promoting a goal
That will either bring ebullience and joy –
Or alienate and estrange

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But one thing we can never, ever, change –
Is our allegiance!
