Not in my name

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 War! Good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 War!
What is it good …
gooo on my son, score!
Rats, missed again

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 War! Gott in himmel
What is it good … tor!
Unbedingt nichts!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Coup! Mon dieu
What is it good … bût!
Absolument rien!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And so, ’twas the night before …
On the eve of war
Full of intrigue …
We watch Champions League
Surreally, with war looming
We listen to the booming
Of Stadium announcers
Who deify the pouncers
Strikers, who poach
While the camouflaged, encroach
And we celebrate dubious goals
As advanced forces, punch holes
In Iraqi defences
And Bush dispenses
His own personal fatwa
Blair, blindly, falls for the patois
And Desert Storm the sequel
Only ratifies, all that is unequal

Notes

Apologies to FGTH.

An example of how pop pap can register for an eternity.

Reference deliberately made to ‘coup’ as opposed to ‘la guerre’, in recognition that the USA would prefer the overthrow of the Iraqi regime.
And, in my pidgin French, ‘coup’ rhymes with ‘bût’ – the French for goal!
And, for some reason, I thougt ‘tor’ was the German for goal, but now I’m not so sure, perhaps it should be ‘ziel’, which rather spoils the rhyme, and the point.
Perhaps someone could enlighten me via the guestbook?

Sure enough, the attacks on Iraq started that very night.

“Not in my name” – seems to be the new peace anthem for the anti-war campaigners
