Not Waving but Drowning

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Only one Mexican Wave all match
my poem must have got through
so hopefully that’s the end of it
to be replaced with something new.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And the cameras stayed mainly on the pitch
so us viewers could focus on the game
that meant the posers had to watch the match
and miss out on their fifteen minutes of fame.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But weren’t Spain pretty awesome ?
not bad for a so called “boring” team
by winning three trophies on the trot
they are worthy to be called supreme.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Are they as good as the Brazil of old
say the one that was great in 1970 ?
I don’t reckon there’s much between them
but can you imagine what a match that would be ?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But Spain are the greatest team now
and England need to hurry to catch up
but it will take some team to stop them
from going on and winning the next World Cup.

Notes

The title is for Brutus as he asked for a wave ! Great poem by the way.

The question right now is who’s the best this Spanish side or the Brazil one from the seventies?

I’m old enough to have watched the Brazil team from those days on the telly, and they were special.

But so are this Spanish side, and without doubt are up there.

If my opinion is worthy I’d say Brazil would just nick it, but only just.
