why are you disheartened – wipe away that tear
two steps forward and one step back
we’re getting there- we’re getting there-we’re never going back

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 why are we pointing and suddenly scorning
this is not the time for a nation to be mourning
joined by a dream in village and in town
driven on euphoria – the pain of coming down
but hey that’s football – and hey that’s life
if you travelled there or sat at home-you know you will survive

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 and don’t you remember that awful German game
a year ago at Wembley-stumbling in the rain
to 5-1, Argentina,Denmark and now
so why are you dwelling – on who and why and how

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 and all of your cynicism – let it all go
football is football – as if you didn’t know
out without passion -but out with pride –
out with a whimper – on a roller-coaster ride
out with anger – out with the groans
out with the slating – out with the moans
out with the tabloids – no one you can name
no-one needs to carry – all of that blame

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 but one thing i’m thinking – and don’t you feel it too
this has been amazing -how’s it been for you
isn’t this special – isn’t this the best
sixty-six, seventy, ninety and the rest
celebrate- celebrate- people coming home
coming home with football -coming home alone

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 and maybe we blew it – and lost it on the day
you only get one chance- and then it goes away
until you get the next one …and maybe who knows..
next time….next time ’cause anything goes …
