Oh Mother Dear

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Oh mother dear, please tell me, pray,
Will Shelbourne ever win again?
My mind is thrown in disarray,
My heart can scarcely bear the pain.
Why have we lost our ruthless touch
In putting other teams away?
Why have we fallen down so much?
Oh mother dear, please tell me, pray.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Oh do not fret, my darling son,
The season’s barely three months old,
The league has still two-thirds to run,
So put your dismal thoughts on hold.
It’s time to show some faith and trust,
Too soon to say who lost and won,
So keep your inner strength robust
And do not fret, my darling son.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Oh mother dear, please tell me, pray,
Why have we hit this dreadful slump?
Can we really hope to play
With style, and circumvent this hump?
Should we strip our game right back?
Would going back to basics pay?
Why does our winning game plan crack?
Oh mother dear, please tell me, pray.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Oh do not fret, my darling son,
But cloak your heart in thankfulness.
This odyssey has just begun,
You’re weaned on far too much success.
Remember, we’ve had twelve great years,
When everything is said and done,
So blow your nose and dry your tears,
And do not fret, my darling son.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Oh mother dear, please tell me, pray,
Why are we slipping down the league?
Why do we walk with feet of clay,
And show such symptoms of fatigue?
Why can we not assert our might?
Why have the blue skies turned to grey?
Why has the sun slipped out of sight?
Oh mother dear, please tell me, pray.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Oh do not fret, my darling son,
Soon we’ll find the perfect blend.
Please put away that loaded gun,
This minor blip will shortly end.
Beware, my boy, and pay no heed
To spiteful theories, cruelly spun.
Recite again the Shelbourne creed,
And do not fret, my darling son.
