old codgers FC

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Funny thing, camaraderie
and how the nicknames that once amused
in the fullness of time
leave many bemused

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Coco, Moose, Khazi and Penny –
shoring up midfield
who was it got past them?
not many

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Up front, Swifty (not)
Doc and Dunkers **
who’s profligacy, * kept us all
from resting on our hunkers

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Bazza, Banksy, Coomzi and Ellers
even then
would have to be considered
quite geriatric fellas!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And then there was me, the quiet one
at full back (either flank)
too non-descript for a real nickname : “Si!”
yet another misplaced pass – sigh! oh … rank

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 It would be many years later
before the mouse mused
and morphed
into Clik.

Notes

triggered by an enquiry from Allan Watson
re one of my poems : “the ol’ sod”

We played for the same club, but in different era’s!
Old Latymerians (even the club had a nickname : Old Lats)

I’m harking on about the 80’s – same decade too.

Not sure this XI ever actually lined out –
my meandering mind has merged memories.
And there were many, many more.
Including : “Mine! oh, no it’s not ….” and his famous half time captain’s team talks :
“give ’em boot, bite and b*****k”

* only kidding guys (they were big then!)

** Doc & Dunkers – typical brothers, as different as chalk and cheese.
