Olimpija Ljubljana 1 Shelbourne 0

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We lost one nil, I know we’ve still
A chance of qualification.
The tie’s alive and we will strive
To change the situation.
A bumper crowd will roar out loud
And spur us on to glory.
They’ll pack defence and make things tense
And try to spoil our story.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The lads did well, the tales do tell,
Olimpija were daycent.
We’d five across midfield because
We couldn’t be complacent.
We led them dances, had our chances
But couldn’t quite convert them.
We didn’t score, or get a draw
And thus we failed to hurt them.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The optimists unveil the mists,
They make the best supporters.
But me, I fear the score last year,
When Hibs arrived to thwart us.
It does no harm remaining calm,
But I just cannot do it.
The next game will make hearts stand still,
I doubt I will sit through it.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 If only we had buried three
And kept the Slovenes goalless.
Home and dry, we’d walk the tie
And they’d be glum and soulless.
If only Jay had scored away,
If only we’d scored twenty,
I mightn’t start to fall apart
And get some sleep a-plenty.

Notes

An agonizing two week wait for the second leg, followed by an unbearable ninety minutes at Tolka Park. Why do we put ourselves through it?
