On The Ball City – the original and revised

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 KICK IT OFF – THROW IT IN
it’s 3 o’clock, throw in the towel
HAVE A LITTLE SCRIMMAGE
get into a fight with the stewards
KEEP IT LOW, A SPLENDID RUSH
hoof route one, all offside
BRAVO, WIN OR DIE
go and get the pies
ON THE BALL CITY
wake up! Don’t panic!
NEVER MIND THE DANGER
have you done the risk assessment
STEADY ON, NOW’S YOUR CHANCE
watch out, here they come
HURRAH! WE’VE SCORED A GOAL!
ooh ar, we’ve let one in

Notes

At a recent game, a visiting Canadian fan was interested in the words for our historic, some say only, song. The above, in capitals, is only the chorus – there are two verses but these have not been sung in the stand (to my knowledge) for many decades. On The Ball City was written over a hundred years ago and was used by other local teams as their anthem before we claimed it and belt it out at every game.
