One Game One Community

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 every year every week
thousands of people across this land
go to football to sit or stand
in grounds and parks in pubs and bars
to watch this game

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 sometimes I see you
flipping the pages of your programme
past the bit on racism in football
turning away ..
“whatever. ….what racism?”.
“that’s all sorted now innit?”
“seen it all before…. .old news mate”
“racism..yeah that was the eighties”
blah blah blah..

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 but it hasn’t gone away it’s still here
look at the bigger picture
segragation separation
indignation integration
isolation sheer frustration
all across our weary nation

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 BUT..

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 once a year for two weeks
players and children of every club
wear shirts and send the message
Kick Racism Out Of Football…. and life
and once a year
thousands across this land
get involved and use football
to bring together
people from every background
to share thoughts
find ways
to write poems
make slogans
run races
paint pictures
play football
send a message
and make a difference

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 and meanwhile
every other week in the year
thousands of people across this land
go to football to sit or stand
in grounds and parks in pubs and bars
to watch this game and use football
to escape unwind and follow their teams

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 all good stuff but..
this year one question
are we leaving it all to the children and to others?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 if it really is all ok now
if it really is one game one community
think about it for a moment
what are you doing this year
in your community
to keep it that way or make it right..
and more importantly are you involved?
