One More Christmas With Basil

as Christmas time draws near
this joyous news we bring you all
that Basil is still here

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 for eight long years upon this site
he’s never aged at all
preserved in time like home made wine
he nods that old football

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 he nearly bit my legs off once
like players we have known
he was the first dog in the world
to write a football poem

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 he’s still a wag above the rest
he never let us down
through thick and thin he spurred us on
in village and in town

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 he’s mellowed quite a lot these days
for better and for worse
but still we long for Basil
to pen another verse

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 he’s seen the new pups on the block
those up and coming dogs
that German Shepherd on You Tube
with tricks upon the box

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 he’s well aware that time is short
a doggie has his day
so all we ask is one more ode
dear Bas for Christmas Day?
