OUR WALL

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Our backyard
Wasn’t very big
Not much room
To swing a rat
Never mind a cat
But the wall
Was solid and forgiving
And had seen matches
That brought glory
FA Cups
World Cups
Premiership Titles
All won by me and me mates
And that wall
Saved many a goal certainty
Caused rows over
Who was offside
The wall always impartial
Remained resolutely silent
And the games resumed
Tears where shed at that wall
And knees bled at that wall
And we lived such dreams
With that wall
And when we grew up
Left the womb of childhood
For more exciting
But short lasting pleasures
Our sacred wall
Abandoned and neglected
Was taken over by the council
Accountants
And what did they do?
Knocked the bloody thing down!
