Outlaw the Draw

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It could be nil-nil, zero, zilch
No chance of a goal being scored
The strikers nod politely
‘Your ball Jimmy, after you Claude’

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The fans are getting restless
Travel plans rearranged
No nearer to deciding this ‘thrilling’ tie
The ball and net estranged

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Level at ninety minutes
So the fans get a detention
Their reward for a boring game
Is half-an-hours extension

Notes

Carling Cup matches that are nil-nil draws at full-time should go straight to pens. League games too for that matter. I have watched the odd cracking nil-nil but 4-4, 7-1. or 5-2 is better (Norwich City fan!)

Sometimes, teams appear to play not to win, but ‘not to lose’ which results in a scrappy match. Fans want goals. Don’t we? Or is it good to win every game one-nil? Answers on a match programme…
