Over Land And (Batter)sea

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 And so it’s beginning the rumours and plans
Retractable roofing extravagant stands
With hundreds of flats for the wealthier fans
Yes it’s all for the good of the game

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 There’ll be seventy thousand packed in our new home
My how our fan-base has suddenly grown
But what will become of the place that we’ve known
And I wonder what will be our name?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We might have to sing “come on Batterchelsea!”
There’s a few I can think of who’d love to with glee
We’ve known it was coming but what’s strange to me
Is how will they fill all the seats?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And I think on those fans that have battled alone
To save all those ancient and wonderful homes
The grounds of their childhood where first goals were known
And the crowds spilling onto the streets

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And it’s flourished and flummoxed since 1905
From it’s wide open terrace to champion pride
With its hotels and glamour and modern day side
But they’re struggliing to fill it somehow!

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 And it isn’t notalgia that ‘s making me cry
Just soul-less designs that are boring and dry
And you end up just leaving and screaming out why
So come on … adapt the Bridge now?

Notes

I know there will be a million reasons and excuses offered why the ground can’t be adapted again ..but it could!, Plans appeared today, about a possible Chelsea move to Battersea to a 500 million pound new home near the Power Station .It might even mean the club having to change their name!

“To move, Chelsea would need the nod from Chelsea Pitch Owners, a non-profit organisation formed in 1997 to prevent Stamford Bridge being sold again to property developers. They own the naming rights to the club – so could force Chelsea to change their name if the club left the ground. without their backing.” (Re-printed from The Guardian). To read the full article visit
