Padiham Fc (the craziest 92nd minute in world football)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Football’s fickle gods
Delight in creating havoc in hearts and minds
“As flies to wanton boys are we to th’ gods”
So spake Shakepseare’s Gloucester
And tis true of football
They weave their tricks in the neon boots of footballers
Who dare not revel in the missed goals, the hapless chances
Of the slips and trips that masquerade as step overs, skinned not quite right
To leave the selfie-styled Messi wannabes a**se over t*t
And then the redemption
The ignition of resilience
The bloody-minded determination that demands
Not only excellence, but sweat,
Not stars but miners digging deep into their battered boots
Grabbing the game by the scruff of the shirt
And sorrow Gone in 60 seconds
Ripping a draw from the cliched jaws of defeat
11 rubies shining in the Lancashire rain
The Storks owned the Sky this day
Swapping shirts with Casillas.

Notes

“This is the dramatic final minute of Padiham’s meeting with Widnes in the North West Counties Football League on Saturday. Trailing 3-1 in the 92nd minute, Padiham grab a goal with little more than 60 seconds of the game remaining. Widnes then have a chance to make the score 4-2 but Padihim manage to clear the ball and get the equaliser in game’s final seconds”.

Loved by Iker Casillas!
