Patrick the Hat-trick and the light of my life

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A third boy
Such joy!
And with your name
Who else could you be
But Patrick the Hat-trick

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Almost got the 5-a-side team now
With a gnarled, snarling, churlish (and ancient) sweeper
Just need a spritely, bouncing keeper
To complement
The Thinker, sharp and combative
Orchestrating midfield
The Bull, charging around up front
Heart on his sleeve
Desperate to achieve

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And Paddy, where will you fit?
At the back, alongside your daddy?
In goal? Leaping, and reaping, praise
Covering for your da, in too much of a hamstrung haze
Or linking between your brothers?
Bright, breezy, tough as teak
A glut of glittering goals to seek?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And who to fill the number 5 shirt?
Tough as old boots and ready to dish the dirt?
To drive us through the rain and pain
An engine, that just keeps on churning
With an ambition, a hunger, that’s brightly burning
Who chivvies and consoles
Steady at the controls
The floodlight, who constantly beams
Her way, into all of our darkest dreams

Notes

For my sons
And for Maeve – my wife, the strength and light in my life
