peace one day …( football poets for peace)

¶ 1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 peace one day – just one day of peace
right across the world from the west to the east
easy to say – but it’s harder to do
one day of peace between me and you
one day of peace where they scrabble to survive
one day of peace for the barely alive
one little planet one world alone
and meanwhile football – look at how it’s grown
so why are we watching and scratching our heads
football in the world but a world in shreds
see it on the terraces see it in the stands
see it on the faces right across the land
thousands and thousands and everywhere the same
driven by a passion joined by a game
people united people with a dream
so much devotion for just a little team
and miilions of people together ev’ry week
football jokes football chants but no-one ever speaks

¶ 2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 never heard a manager saying war must cease
never seen a footballer talking ‘bout peace
but wouldn’t it be brilliant and laugh at it you may
if people came together at a game to say..
we want peace and we want it right now
we all wanna see an end to war somehow
football for freedom football for peace
football crowds singing wanting wars to cease
no side to cheer for no need to win
what will it take for peace to begin

¶ 3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 when will we realise we all have a choice
when will we twig it we all have a voice
when every little action everything we do
everything starts with me and with you
working on the street working in the home
far far away from the latest war zone
far far away from some countryside rally
far from the homeless sleeping in some alley
far from the violence happening next door
one day of peace for one day of war
one day of ceasefire right across the land
what will it take until we understand?

football’s so big..so much influence..pubs..the home..so powerful and
i just had this strange beautiful dream about stadiums full of football fans and players all over the world cheering screaming chanting playing and praying for peace…. are you sure that was just organic ginger- tea babe? dream on?

Hi Crispin. Chris Sutton on the radio has gone for a Chelsea v Coventry final. As we know anything can happen in the Cup, and I reckon we can go to the final.
We’re still in with a chance of the play offs too, so lots to go for.

Let the masses drool over their odds on City v Unted Final, but who knows how pressure can hit.

Cov and Chels will be rightly labelled as having no chance..but hey …stranger things have happened..

so Chelsea v Coventry…that’s the Final for us!

Hi Crispin,

How are you doing mate? Yes, you’re probably right but hey football is all about emotion and passion and I just love writing about the game. I try to keep my poetry to a reasonable length but there’s so much to write about the game and its literature just lends itself naturally to poetry. Sometimes I just get completely carried and I do apologise for the length of my poetry but it’s a great thrill to be associated with Football Poets.

There’s something so evocative and nostalgic for football fans the world over, in ‘revisiting’ old lost grounds.

Occasionally some remnants remain, with perhaps part of a wall or part or a stand or thre shape of a terrace, but often they are only still there in faded images and in our heads..

Today B.B.C post on F.B was titled:Premier League reduced to 18 clubs? I really think it may be interesting to see if this would be Everton’s nightmare and this poem is well suited for this concern.If there would be more difficult battle to stay if there were 18 teams.Great poem and somehow true.
