Penalty!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The finger of blame was pointing
As reluctant he rose from the mud
His keeper cursed, features disjointed,
The ref waved away further fuss.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Slowly he trudged to the edge of the box
Alongside the wizard he’d felled
He knew he‘d been conned, not a hair did he touch
And the wizard? He knew it as well.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As yellow card shone ‘neath’ the floodlights
He shrugged and stood still hands on hips
Was what happened the catalyst for one of those nights?
Angry fans thought pursing their lips.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He caught a sly smile from the flyer
Toward team-mates who jokingly grinned
Such scorn added fat to the fire
Of his anger that flared deep within.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 As his keeper danced on the goal line
Waving his arms to distract,
Penalty taker taking his time
Seemed disturbed by custodians act.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Taking his eyes off the dancer
He placed the ball down on the spot
Whilst the bottle less gave all the answers
To the actions they’d much rather not.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Ignoring the still dancing keeper
He ran up, and put his foot through the ball
Then stood there aghast, emotion depleted
As upright kept score at nil all.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Defenders raced to congratulate keeper
As the ball was put down for goal kick
And the wizard from now on would have to be weary
Of conjuring further cheap tricks!

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Yellow card scowled at the wizard
Pointing his finger in anger, real mad
As fans of the team, the upright acquitted
Thought: maybe tonight’s not so bad?
