Where did they go, the flower of youth,
Who faced the world with battled fist,
Who vanished in the quest for truth,
Like shadows in the morning mist?

They showed a strong united face,
And uttered forth a warrior’s cry,
Yet disappeared without a trace
Beneath the burning, azure sky.

The unity of marching feet,
Advancing to attain their goals,
Was dissipated in the heat –
Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes.
