Portadown in the Setanta

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 No incidents to leave a taste,
Just loud, good-humoured banter.
We let our hard work go to waste
Last night in the Setanta.
Our forwards really went to town,
But we messed up ‘gainst Portadown.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Two nil up, and we all thought
We’d win it at a canter,
But twice we left our cover short
Last night in the Setanta.
And Boyle’s late screamer made us frown
But gave great joy to Portadown.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Jayo took his goal with style,
Crowe looked like a panther.
Two-goal Richie made us smile
Last night in the Setanta.
The quest for the All-Ireland crown
Was stymied, though, by Portadown.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A heady cocktail was distilled
And served in a decanter.
The beating heart was never stilled,
Last night in the Setanta.
Yet still we felt obliged to drown
Our sorrows after Portadown.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Thus in the bar ‘neath Tolka’s stand
We did not ask for Fanta,
But stood around with pints in hand
Discussing the Setanta.
And in a night of some renown,
We really got the porter down.
