Pre Season Ritual

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I brought down my camera to Tolka today,
The place looked so empty and bare.
O’erhead lay the bludgeoning stench of decay
Which hung on the cold, heavy air.
The pitch looked resplendent but held a sad tinge,
Like a lover whose date hasn’t shown,
I felt like a voyeur about to impinge
As I climbed o’er the pitch with a groan.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I strode cross the turf with my camera held tight,
And tried to get sunlight aligned.
You cannot take photos right into the light
And I wanted the old stand behind.
Click! went my camera across the bare ground
And I was in artistic heaven.
I’d get a few bob if I hawked it around –
The Shels squad 2007.

Notes

Four weeks to the start of the season and we have no manager, no players, and an owner critically ill in hospital.
Still, at least we’re not Cork City…
