Pre-season – so many questions

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A blank page …

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Bewitching in its nakedness.
Am I better off leaving it just so?
Or should I fill it?
Turn bare to bling?
Make it sing?
Tell a story?
Gorge on glory?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 It was just there –
like a dare, I had to meddle
’twas as inviting as a gripe at Grip
or a snipe at Sven.
I approached with a poem in mind –
with a pre-defined boundary of football imposed.
But what a glorious boundary;
you’d never hit a six beyond this one
and it’s a big enough border, even without
mixed metaphors.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A pause …

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Will I fill this blank page with
trite, with humour, with fact, fiction, reality or fantasy?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 It’s pre-season …
So will I fill it with my hopes and dreams,
or fears for the coming term?
Will I fill it with the transfers in and out
and my reactions to them?
Will I fill it with predictions?
Best case, worst case?
What ifs?
A slew of victories …
A spate of draws …
A run of defeats …
and the consequences.
Will I fill it with resolutions?
I WILL go to every home game
I WILL go to away matches
I WILL go to reserve games
I WILL go to see other local teams
just to prove, that whatever
got me turned on / tuned in to my team in the first place
still holds sway –
although I’m still not sure I’ll understand the draw
if I analyse it logically.
