Promises. More Broken Promises!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 If I busted a gut, to make a rush for the bus,
I could get home indoors for the match
I could pack up work early, that way I’d surely,
Have time on me hands to sit back

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 With me tea on me lap I’d cheer on the chaps
Mounting wave after wave of attacks
All of the above is what would, should or could have been,
If things panned out well for this fan

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But every time I take internationals in,
On the t.v like most armchair fans
I’m sick to the teeth, of those lame excuses they give
As, to why, the national team scuppered me plans

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A new morn will court the worst hangovers
After the national team’s failed to turn up
After all we’re….., we’ve a devine right to be challengers
In the Euro’s, The Friendlies, World Cups

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 So I stay at work, the wireless on in the background,
Half an ear on all aspects of play
That way I don’t have to see, just what’s wrong with our team
As it upsets the whole mood of the day

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I’ve tried hard to consider, if, one day, they’ll deliver
And give me back a pride that’s been hurt
But up to now it’s been maybe’s, if’s and more but’s
So that’s why I listen and…. get on with me work!

Notes

I’m a fan of all the home countries, I try to get behind the lot of them when the occasion arises, but watching matches that never quite seem to reach the sense of occasion, involving so-called international players, who fail with great consistancy, has become a real downer for this fan.

Our managers and teams are just not good enough to ride the round-a-bout of trying to win World Cups and European Championships, but we all live in hope, that one day it’ll all pan out, and that is what a football fan has to keep in the back of his/her mind to allow them to continue following the national team, isn’t it?
