Qatar ~ Not In My Name

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 migrant workers meagre wages
lacking in support
dying in the searing heat
in the name of sport
all are welcome so they claim
we know that’s not true
there’s no understanding
of LGBTQ
women made to live within
the power of the men
forced to gain permission
time and time again
if they wish to travel
or study overseas
they must ask their husbands
who do as they please
made to cover shoulders
short skirts are a no
modesty’s insisted on
ev’rywhere they go
living with a set of rules
hard to understand
freedom is a far off dream
in this desert land
will our fans behave out there
will we watch like fools?
in a country following
prehistoric rules
in our once called People’s Game
FIFA once again
choose the most unsuited hosts
but not in my name

Notes

So how are you feeling as it draws close?.Will you be watch and wish to comment here? The silence is deafening.

Isn’t this truly the worst (and no doubt totally corrupt) choice for a World Cup, even after Russia, South Africa and Brazil …or do you/we just turn a blind eye?

We’d like you know your feelings. Do we hope that our being there and various countries’ players and pundits bravely speaking out on it while there, can make a difference? Don’t be silent on your thoughts.

I am so torn. Are you? I love watching England and the World Cup ev’ry four years so it’s a hard one.

Discuss.
