Quarters

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Tension building
Like an over-filled balloon ready to burst
White knuckle ride on your sofa
A padded roller coaster
Mouth dry, except for the four cans of lager
Nil-nil at half-time, the mood gets darker
Sometimes we need to play the second half first

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Pressure mounting
Just one goal is all it will take
Concentratiing till your head aches
Stomach churning, the twitchy leg shakes
Silent, except for the eating of pies
Then we score! Well, it was no surprise
It had been coming!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The cork is out of the bottle
The people are out of their seats
The screaming, the shouting
It was never in doubt
Relief washes out
All we have to do is hang on….

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 (aaaaarrrghhh)

Notes

Ukraine 0 England 1
England qualify for the quarter finals.
It was hard to watch, a soft goal for Ukraine to concede, and a goal that should have been if it hadn’t been offside. It’s good watching England again, I get that that tingly sickly excitement of anticipation in my stomach like when you’ve eaten too many packets of Refreshers!
