Railway

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 My Dad played for Railway
In Nineteen Thirty Nine,
Wore a yellow jersey
And guarded their goal line,
I used to have a photograph
Of the team my Dad was in,
He was standing in the middle,
So young and tall and slim…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Back in the early Fifties,
When I was a little lad,
We’d go and watch the football,
Just me and my Dad,
Ken Nadauld, Peter Balfour,
Ian Palmer, Brian Biljoen,
They were my boyhood heroes
On Saturday afternoon…

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Because they played for Railway,
When love, not money, was the goal,
Though half a century has gone by,
I still recall those days of old,
And my Dad played for Railway,
A club that is no more,
The year they won the Championship,
Just before the War…

Notes
