Rave On Peter Tickner- Stroud Football Poet RIP

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I always loved your epistle to the Sub Rooms
of long lost Stroud and Gloucester 60s teenage days
with the teddy boys watching the Beatles..back in the day

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 you were one of the first Stroud Football Poets
I first heard in some pub long ago
and your ‘Battle of 47’ ode***
when you recalled a long gone winter day
when Eastingon took on rivals Frampton
for ‘Stroud’s premier league and crown’..
and when you spoke
in that oh so special way
I could almost smell the linament and dubbin!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 saw you – performed with you
with Stuart, Danny, Katie, Peter W, Jeff and Rosemary

at the Science Fest in June
Slamming The Atom
you put in another jaunty poem

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 as I drove out from the Town Hall
I passed you
walking along in the Cheltenham night

immaculately turned out …
a naughty wink and glint in your eye

Notes

Peter Tickner 1933-2011.
Longtime and original Stroud Footbal Poet member sadly passed away on August 26th .

To a Genial Genius

No matter what he looks like now,
Pontificating on the box
On football matters that don’t matter.
I remember, in December’s gloom, a shot,
A comet shot from him
That, I swear, scorched its way into the net
At Stamford Bridge.
And we forget, bright summer’s promise
Always ends in Autumn leaves.
Thanks Jimmy Greaves.
