Ray Wilkins

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 1 Footballers are immortal
They live forever
In the memories of goals
And the most sublime of passes
Re-created from the archives of youth
They race like Gericault’s colts across the pitch
With our dreams stitched to their glorious boots
And even when they hang up their wings
Take to the SKY before returning to the warm earth
We too linger and consider our childhood slipping
Just a little further away
And we bid them
“All the best, thanks for those match days”
As they take their all too soon leave.

Notes

Sad news today about Ray “Butch” Wilkins joining Heaven’s football club; a classy player indeed. RIP.
