Remember Wembley

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Remember Wembley?
Where Ossie’s knees went
all trembly apparently.
Well Wembley’s not ready
so it’s back to the
Millennium stadium.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Remember Wembley?
Where the Town assembly
sang so deliriously.
When Wembley’s ready
I’ll walk once again
down Wembley Way.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Remember Wembley?
Where I attended
an England friendly
against the Lions
from Cameroon on
a freezing cold February.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Remember Wembley?
Well let me remind
you ( gently )
that Swindon Town
are undefeated
at Wembley.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Heroes of ’69
resplendent in mud spattered,
black and white kit.
Rogers rounds Wilson in
strength sapping extra time. 3-1!
“And that is that!”

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Ossie’s diamond geezers of ’90;
so easy against the Makems
it was embarrassing,
but only McLoughlin’s
crazily corkscrewing effort
to send us joyously up
to the top division
( or so we thought. )

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Then heart stopping moments
in the 4-3 epic in ’93.
Best game ever at Wembley?
Foxes of Leicester clawing back
a 3-0 lead to reach parity.
White prostrate in the penalty area,
Elleray awards a penalty,
a penalty at Wembley,
stroked home by Bodin calmly
whilst pandemonium reigned supreme
amongst the massed ranks of
the Town faithful,
safe in the knowledge that
“We’ve never lost at Wembley!”

Notes

I for one can’t wait for the official opening of Wembley stadium. How many fans of other teams can say they’ve never lost there?!!
