Rime not rhyme

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The first frost of autumn
delivers ahead of the postman –
a portent of a hard winter to come?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 I remember when
it was Lee
and not Jack
who sent shivers down my spine –
he was, perhaps
more balletic
than the poetic
Robert.
Defenders would freeze
as he chilled the senses
with his blistering speed.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And occasionally he scored
for Chelsea
for Brentford
and for …
and for ….?
Alas, it’s not my memory that fails me

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 For his flair
and his pace
must have thawed.

Notes
