Root out / shootout

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I prayed
I prayed so hard, for you
that you would pull through
and survive, the operation
and that recovery, which couldn’t be swift
or without pain
could at least, be resolute
and fruitful.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And then I prayed some more
with votive candles nervously lit
those same shaky fingers clasped, ball shape
and I prayed to God, that your surgeon
would have a steadier hand
a more assured psyche
that he would be the type
who could step up to a penalty shootout
and stroke with a surety of skill
and guaranteed result
so that an ensuing tumult
would herald the removal
of the tumour, masquerading, as itchy keeper
and that God as referee, wouldn’t blow
for a re-take.

Notes

For Mum

operation in one country, concerned son in another

4pm – still waiting for the phone call ….

Later …..
Good news, TG

Our thanks to all the medical staff at St Marks Hospital.
And to the surgeon – Lauren, Vieira, Ljungberg, Ashley Cole – all rolled into one – reference to last nights penalty shootout,
in the FA Cup 5th round replay,
after Sheffield Utd held Arsenal to a nil-nil draw
before going down 4-2 on penalties.
