1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Oh how the mighty live
With their touchlines painted bright white
Undersoil heating
Hot and cold showers
Floodlights that let team train at night.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Cosy dug-outs with a telly in
To replay the action at once
Padded soft seats for the substitutes
To warm up their under worked rumps.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Hold fire! Whats that on the telly?
The manager and subs have to stand
I can’t see the touchline, rains washed it away
And the goalmouth’s been covered in sand.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Running tracks turned to a quagmire
Linesman is glued to his spot
With no chance what so ever of calling it right
As he can’t see the ball through the fog.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Both dug outs submerged in rain water
That’s tipped down the whole of the match
Yet the managers, subs and their sodden supporters
Are still giving it up for the chaps.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 One end looks out to a local park
Where the touchlines can clearly be seen
MOTD should have let them play there
At last look that park pitch was green.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Wellington boots were the dress for the day
To help keep the plates warm and dry
Rumour has it that the flush Mansfield faithfull
Had helped with the goalkeepers pay?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Next time we’re sat in our chic plastic seats
With them hoi poloi fans in their suits
Remember real fans from the likes of Harrogate Railway
Who follow our game….at grass roots!

Notes

Caught bits of three games on the box yesterday (Sunday) Spurs v Brum down The Lane, Fiorentina v Inter in Florence and last but not least..Harrogate Railway v Mansfield, what a difference the rain makes!

To the fans and our game when you’ve no luxuries like a covered end and undersoil drainage and heating.

In the top flight we’re pretty pampered in our stadia, is has to be said.
