Seven Up ?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Cruel jibes in the corridors,
hushed tones in the classroom.
Fingers pointing, tongues wagging;
am I the victim of a whispering campaign?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Secret smiles and sniggers as I
stand before the students.
Half opened can of Seven Up
fizzing merrily on the desk.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Colleagues cannot quite conceal
their mirth, smirking openly.
I grin awkwardly in return,
but I am hurting, hurting.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Not for me the Magnificent Seven
or the Seven Wonders of the World
and how can seven
possibly be lucky for me?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Fingers held up one by one,
confirming to disbelieving sons
that their team had been stuffed,
well and truly thrashed out of sight.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 More proof coming with the
unforgiving, clinical chattering
of the videprinter, registering
the final score – SEVEN.
