Shankly’s Ghost
¶ 1

Shining reds God’s jewels burst forth
The Spion Sons stood proud
Their songs raced high to heaven’s ears
And filled the Anfield ground
Like Yeats’ swans they spread their wings
And caught the light of day
I raced down to the terrace
Before their beauty flew away

Dalglish Hansen Souey Clem
Thommo Neal and Jones
Their very names a psalm a hymn
Their football thrilled my bones
For more than 30 seasons now
Each year a new tale told
And still the power has power to charm
Delight the eyes and warm the soul

I saw a man wave to the Kop
A gift from God above
His words no whispers in the dark
But Gospels fused with love
His heart so true his boots so strong
His back straight as a post
Joined us to cheer the Redmen on
With passion, Shankly’s Ghost.
