Shelbourne 4 FC Vetra 0

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They spent two and a half days
Travelling here in a van.
They deserve mighty praise
For endeavour.
But I’d say that they cursed
The whole team to a man
As they watched quite the worst
Display ever.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Five minutes had passed
When the first red was shown,
The die was thus cast
Amid laughter.
And now the red mist
Set a very strange tone,
Another dismissed
Shortly after.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And so it was fate
With still half an hour left
They went down to eight,
Three being banished.
And we let a large roar
As they stood there bereft
As their chances to score
All but vanished.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The journey was long
For the poor Vetra fan,
But where they belong,
Football matters.
A long way to ride
In an old transit van
To see their poor side
End in tatters.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And so we progress
As a second round pair,
And I must confess
I’m in heaven.
But to be rather blunt,
How will the lads fare
When we have to confront
A full eleven?

Notes

Intertoto Cup 1st Qual Rd 2nd Leg. Quite the most bizarre game of football I’ve seen for many a year. A straight red for hauling down Glenn Crowe as he bore down on goal meant the Lithuanians were reduced to 10 men after 5 minutes. Just before half time a clumsy challenge by a player already on a yellow meant a second red. After 60 mins, another previously cautioned player committed a rash foul. Eleven versus eight. Next up Odense of Denmark.
