Shels 1 Derry City 1

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We’d wrenched the monkey from our back
And grasped him firmly round the neck,
He could not fight our strong attack
And simpered like a mangled wreck.
And then we grasped him by the arm
Ignoring his pathetic pleas,
And yes, his face turned to alarm,
As is the wont with chimpanzees.
Round and round and round he flew
As we prepared to launch this beast
At least a farmer’s mile or two,
Or more, if yonder wind increased.
But oh, you need to concentrate
When hammer-throwing clinging apes,
For sadly, it’s a common trait
That suddenly the brat escapes.
And sure enough, we looked around,
Distracted by a sudden noise,
And suddenly, within the ground,
The chimp once more regained its poise.
And as we screamed and fretted like
Some unrelieved insomniac,
The monkey, with a gleeful strike,
Leapt once again upon our back.
