Shero’s equaliser in the 1996 FAI Cup Final

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 All hope had seemed lost,
Our dreams were discarded.
We were counting the cost
Of a keeper red-carded.
The minutes ticked by,
We did not look like scoring,
The death knell was nigh,
The match had turned boring.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And Pat’s had it won,
They were winding down slowly,
The hard work was done,
We’d no proper goalie.
Then out of the blue,
The ball sat up nicely,
And Shero on cue
Flicked a left foot precisely.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A twenty yard lob!
What a time to be gambling!
The most perfect job,
The keeper left scrambling.
A goal at the death,
A replay now beckoned
We sighed a huge breath
In the very last second.

Notes

1996 FAI Cup Final – Shels legend Tony Sheridan pulls one out of the bag when all seemed lost. We won the replay in equally dramatic circumstances
