Sheva Breaks His Duck! But… At What Cost?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “He’s done it at last” all the fans cried
A bloke behind me, gave me a hug
The crazy melee had one thought of..today
Why? When minutes ago, we were mugs!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The money we’ve wasted
Was discussed and debated
As time after he drew blanks

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The bloke, he was there to replace
Has emerged as our ace
In the pack, so for that we say…… thanks

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The manic supporters
Stood there in their hordes
In a show of en masse exultation

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 We’re brought down to earth
As the referee’s birth,
Credentials were bought in to question

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 “Oi Ref, do not book him
D’you how long it took him
To put that round thing in the net?

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 I’ve been stood here so long
With me mates singing songs
To inspire him, that I just forget

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Purleeeze.. put back the card
He’s been working so hard
To score, that he’s doing his nut

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 If he’s to face a suspension
I’m so scared apprehension
Might put him back in to that rut”

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Minutes later the same “E’s gone and done it again”
The home fans were roused to exclaim
Another ecstatic sensation was a wake like occasion
When ‘E’ jotted down goal scorer’s name

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 The celebrations on goal were now shallow
With two bookings expensive the cost
It’s a good thing to be sure, the whole team didn’t score
There’s a chance,…. he’d have sent all of them off!

Notes

Very strange happenings at The Bridge yesterday and no mistake.

Andriy Shevchenko breaks his duck at last!

As all the frustration of hitting everything in SW6 is released, except that sacred orifice that is highlighed as a guide by three white sticks, his team mates run in to the corner to congratulate him in the time honored custom. Right in front of where I sit.

The referee, Mark Clattenburg stands there watching afore mentioned
show of relief, just then Gary O’Neil of Pompey, runs up to him(The ref) with the old pointing at the invisible time peice on his wrist, the referee then proceeds to book Sheva only after having it pointed out to him how long Chelsea have taken to celebrate the goal.

Later on in the game Michael Ballack gets on the score sheet and he gets booked as well for the same thing…celebrating! Whats going on? Did the ref, who looked clearly out of his depth through out the ninety minutes, not know the rules untill he was reminded of them?

The second celebration was nowhere near as long as the first, that’s what makes me question if he knew what he was doing? Very strange.

Yellow cards given out for nothing, can accumulate and have a habit of leading to suspensions, later on in the season when there are a lot of injuries, games in quick sucession, etc, so what is the point of dishing them out for just celebrating scoring a goal?

A lot of fouls by both sides went un-punished, etc by a referee who had a bit of a ‘mare’ to be honest.

Big up to Pompey, who along with The Villa are the two best teams that I’ve seen at ‘The Bridge’ this term. Arry has set them up as a very hard team to beat, which tells me that the Premiership is getting a lot more competitive that the hacks and the pundits would have us believe, which can only be good for the game and for us the fans.

Title races that go right to the line are what we all want if we’re honest are they not?

peace.

kev.
