Shrimps

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In quaint north Lancs near Morecambe Bay
Is a team of great renown.
They’ve trod the trail down Wembley Way,
they’re the pride of their home town.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Though they are small the big teams shy
At the mention of their name
The finest team of footballers
to ever play the game

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Their big day came a few years back
At Wembley they did play
Dartford were the foes back then
But our lads won the day

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 With Keith and Jeffrey in defence
And Malcolm on the wing
And Jim and Larry to score the goals
To make the fans all sing

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The name of the team I’ve yet to tell
As if you didn’t know
It’s Morecambe down at Christie Park
Ee-Aye-Add-I-O

Notes

Written in 1978 (as song lyrics) while I was a student at Lancaster University and regular visitor to Christie Park, Morecambe. The players referred to were 1978 players, not necessarily members of the cup winning side. If I remember correctly they were Jeffrey Done, Malcolm Darling, Jim Clayton, Larry Walsh and Keith Newton, the former England defender.
