In 2004 aged 50, Socrates made a 12 minute appearance as sub for Garforth Town in the Northern Counties League

Socrates was part of the Brazil team that lost 3-2 to Italy in the Quarter-finals of the 1982 World Cup.
In a celebrated midfield of Falcao, Eder, Socrates and Zico – generally considered to be the best National team never to have won the World Cup.
