Squished eggs

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A news item just caught my ear
Totally unrelated, to the sport I hold so dear

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 But you know how my mind ticks
And presents itself to the world as Clik’s

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Always looking to mix fact or fiction
And give it some sort of football depiction

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And so to the news : a lorry spilled it’s load
A flurry of activity, all across the road –

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 In amongst Cavan’s multifarious glens
A flapping cluckload, of slaughterhouse bound hens

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Seven thousand delighted escapees, some of them laying!
And it brought me back, to days of yore, when on roads I would be playing

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 And I wondered, who of todays modern crop
Would best be equipped, to play on a surface where embryo’s plop?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Robinho and Cristiano Ronaldo, with their fancy stepovers
Eminently suitable, to tiptoe between pullovers

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 And of course, sadly, the recently departed Bestie
Who delighted at many a ‘Road’, from Carrow to Elland, thru to Gresty

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 But one group, who should certainly do their training,
with these wizards casting spells –
All at Celtic football club – with the Bhouy Roy on board –
they’ll have to get used to walking on egg_shells !!

Notes

A reference of course to yesterdays news :
The road spillage was for real – Keano was not for Real (pun intended!)
He has of course, opted for Celtic. Good luck to them all.

The title is a nod to the genius of Ronnie Barker, who was remembered on Wednesday night at the Writers award show,
where they played a classic clip of him as a squash virgin (who has just hammered the squashed veteran Ronnie Corbett) & refers to the game as ‘squish’.
Best & Barker – what a loss this year.

‘between pullovers’ – jumpers for goalposts!

Gresty Road – home to Crewe Alexandra FC
Carrow Road – home to Norwich’s canaries
Elland Road – home to Leeds Utd – their old nickname was the Peacocks
