Summertime Blues, Reds, Black & Whites…

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The close season
Late spring through summer holidays
How do I miss football
Let me count the ways
No football, no structure, no anticipation
No joy: but wait! the Confederations Cup on BBC3
Toulon tournament in stadia surrounded by trees
World Cup qualifiers
Air horn amplifiers
To drown out commentators
And annoy couch potatoes
Only two weeks ’til pre-season training begins
Bruises barely faded on overworked shins
Pre-season tours with barely a pause
The season will kick off again

Notes

Cheer up Kevin Raymond! There’s hardly time to rinse out your scarf these days before the season comes round again. I’ll watch/listen to
whatever football I can get during the summer to get my fix; I can’t stand cricket either!
