sweet ball of summer (2002 re-mix)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 tis summer when at last the sun
doth lend a moment to these shores
and lo what’s this which like some snail
doth lie here by this cottage door

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 alone discarded -season done.
as dark as night and plastic too
o sweet sweet ball this sweet sweet day
tis here tis here so round and blue

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 this un-kicked ball this last year’s dream
that lies neglected spent and worn
like seasons lost and battles won
while jasmine blooms like christmas morn

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 and as i gaze and ponder well
on seasons past and seasons new
on games and those who strode and played
and fought and lost and won a few –

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 sleep well will I this summer night
and fearing not will so rejoice
and till tis come remember this
that evr’y season brings a choice

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 and chance to make it run divine
to rest content for well we know
that football in her glory full
returneth in a month or so

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 so near so far but i know well
it’s not a day too soon for me
but i must rest from writing this
pretentious football poetry

On Longing…the deeper more spiritual football kind that is..
and the new fixtures are out too!
Keep it real but keep it cheesey!
