sweet ball of summer

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 tis summer when at last the sun
does lend a moment ot these shores
and lo what’s this-which like some snail
doth lies here by this cottage door
alonre discarded -season done.
all red and black and plastic too
o sweet sweet ball-this sweet sweet day
tis here- tis here-so round yet sad
this un-kicked ball this last year’s dream
that lies neglected spent and worn
like seasons lost and battles won
while jasmine bursts like christmas sweets
un-wrapped on some remembered dawn

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 and as i gaze and ponder well
on seasons past and seasons new
on games and those who strode and played
and fought for glories many leagues –
sleep well will I this solstice night
and fearing not will yet rejoice
and till tis come remember this
that longing opens doors to worlds
and makes the moment more divine
and rest content for well we know
that football in her glory full
returneth in a month or so
so near so far yet i can see
it’s not a day too soon for me
and through it all this summer brief
enrapt in wonder i shall be
content with seasons yet to shine
while writing this crap poetry

Notes

On Longing…the depper more spiritual football kind that is..
Summer Solstice Day Reflection Fluff….
and the new fixtures are out too!
Keep it real but keep it cheesey!
