The Agony and the Ecstasy

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There are times in this world
When you feel pretty sick,
When your stomach is curled
Up and knotted,
As when love’s bubbles burst
And you’re cut to the quick,
And you’re sorry you first
Were besotted.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And then there are times
When your heart is upraised
By the ecstatic chimes
That are ringing.
And the angels of heaven
Cry “Lord God be praised!”
And there’s seven times seven-
-Ty singing.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Last week down in Bray
We experienced both,
As the end of the day
Brought the tide in.
We conceded two goals
Through inertia and sloth,
And we looked for some holes
We could hide in.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 In our stomachs, that knot,
That we know oh too well,
We deserved what we got,
And we knew it.
With a mountain to climb,
We felt lowly as hell –
‘Twas not the first time
That we blew it.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But then came the wonder,
The lifting of clouds,
We hailed each Bray blunder
With cheering.
No more was our vision
Obscured by shrouds,
The slough of derision
Was clearing.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Till in the last minute,
Glenn Crowe found the net,
A tap-in to win it –
Amazing!
And cue such emotion
We’ll never forget,
Our League title notion
Still blazing.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 It’s moments like these
That make football worthwhile,
When you sink to your knees
In elation.
And for days you walk round
With a big, cheesey smile,
For you know you have found
True salvation.

Notes

After a draw and two defeats, we went two down to the Seasiders by half time. Gradually we clawed ourway back into it, and won it 3-2 with the last kick of the game. A telling reminder as to why we all love live football.
