The Attempted Murder Of Patrick Battiston

As you compete for a through ball
That bounces up in the air
The German keepers studded boots
Crash into your chest unaware
Tis attempted murder on a football pitch
I say this not in jest
On that field
That savage field
Where the beautiful game
Should be played
Patrick Battiston lay inert
While team mates silently prayed
The heart was taken from the team
When he was carried off
People were so sure he was dead
They looked away in shame
They at first had thought
He was faking
To try and win the game
Les Blues were never the same again
They should have won the cup
But a teammate almost murdered
Is surely bad enough?
